This is old news, but several months ago Annette Curtis Klause posted the new cover art for The Silver Kiss (released in July). You tell me: does it ring any bells?

The Silver Kiss is one of the original romantic vampire YA out there, written well before the sexy-vampire boom. Twilight's plot is highly reminiscent of it, something I hadn't realized before now (I've been blinded by my undying love for Blood & Chocolate--the book, not the movie). I will say that I'm not a huge fan of the original cover, but it's better than this black background-red object combo I keep seeing everywhere. (The last is technically purple but still counts.) And the tree branches? Cool at first, but now its old.

Does the abuse of Klause's works ever stop? First the decimation of Blood & Chocolate in movie form, and now this. Klause was writing paranormal YA when most current paranormal YA authors were still aspiring writers. I'm just waiting for the TwiHards to start crying that she ripped off Twilight. (If anyone sees evidence of this, please do send me the link.)

On the bright side, in the new edition there are two new short stories about Simon and Zoë.

You seriously aren't kidding. Twilight-esque covers have been all the rage lately. =/ I suppose markets are hoping to appeal to consumers looking for that next vamp/fantasy/romance hit?

(And, um, I haven't read "The Silver Kiss," but I've read about it, and doesn't Zoë like...die? :p)

What bothers me is that The Silver Kiss (as well as other paranormal books like Blood & Chocolate) have been out for years upon years, but because Twilight is the new big thing, they're being remade into Twilight-clones. It's unfortunate

I know what you mean! I've seen Twilight "inspired" covers all over the place. I'm pretty sure Wuthering Heights' and Pride & Prejudice's covers have been given a "make-over"... there might be others, but their names escape me at the moment. One/many of them have "Edward & Bella's favourite book" stamp on them. That is just wrong, and totally taking advantage of the publicity. It makes me cringe. I wouldn't buy a book with that stamp on it. :/

And yeah, the Blood and Chocolate movie was really quite... bad. I distinctly remember being unimpressed. I've been meaning to read the book, though, as I've heard good things about it.

My main issue with the movie is that it takes the book and guts it. No, seriously. The entire premise of the book, the point it was trying to make, was completely flipped on its head. Nothing is the same after the first scene in the movie. I can typically separate books and their movie tie-ins when judging them, but the movie for Blood & Chocolate was created with an utter and absolute disregard for the source material.

Emily Bronte must be rolling in her grave. :/
