I feel like I frequently purchase or choose to read books from specific subgenres (urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and historical romance in particular) in hopes of finding one that redeems the rest of the genre.

Me, too! Especially with urban fantasy, since I am more of a fantasy reader than a romance reader and I just keep hoping.
