I've definitely seen them marketed as YA in the UK; that's the section my copies came from. And they read like YA to me, or certainly not so markedly adult that they were out of place as YA.
I read adult novels from the age of eight, though, so my judgement of what YA "should" be is pretty fuzzily defined.
