Moping on Twitter, eh? That's unfortunate.

The tropes in Twilight are rampant in YA in general. And not only are the books themselves frustrating for their content, but some of the online discussions about them in the context of whether or not they perpetuate rape culture are even more frustrating. I think an author's unwillingness to scrutinize their work, their biases--conscious or unconscious--and the potential for their biases to play out in their work says a lot about society's frame of mind. It isn't simply that rape culture permeates these books, it's that there are people who continue to defend it and ensure the cycle continues.

Sorry to hear about that about a book, although I can't say I'm surprised. Have you found any good ones at all?
